Answered: Goals coming apart during a Match

We’ve had a couple questions recently about what happens when Goals are damaged in a match.

Here’s an official summary:

  1. In general we expect teams to shoot at the Goals at a high velocity. Goals which become damaged from shooting almost certainly will not warrant a disqualification. Also remember, that if a Robot damages their own Goal from shooting, they’re probably only having an adverse effect on their score.

  2. If a Goal becomes damaged during a Match (e.g. the rods pop out of the connectors), referees are encouraged to try and fix the goal if they feel comfortable doing so.

  3. Event Partners are permitted to secure the goal rods to the connectors with tape or other fasteners.

  4. Replays due to Goal failures should only be done in extreme situations, where the failure ends up being Match affecting.
